The Problem:

250 Active Shooter Incidents 2000-2017

In 2014, 2016, and again in 2018, the FBI initiated a study of “active shooter” incidents to provide federal, state, and local law enforcement with data so they can better understand how to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from these incidents.

Casualties from Active Shooter Incidents.

The bar chart contains statistics, broken down by year, of the number of casualties that resulted from active shooter incidents from 2000 to 2017. The total number of casualties for this time frame was 2,217

25% of active shooter events are in Schools & Churches.

The pie chart shows a statistical breakdown of the location categories where the 250 active shooter incidents took place in the U.S. from 2000 to 2017.

2217 Active Shooter Casualties

The map graphic contains several snapshot statistics of the active shooter incidents that occurred in the United States from 2000 to 2017. These statistics include 250 active shooter incidents and 2,217 casualties, including 799 killed and 1,418 wounded.

FBI Conclusion

All 50 FBI active shooter-designated incidents during the 2016-2017 time frame were single-shooter events, and all shooters were male.

Armed and unarmed citizens engaged the shooter in 10 incidents. They safely and successfully ended the shootings in eight of those incidents. Their selfless actions likely saved many lives.

The enhanced threat posed by active shooters and the swiftness with which active shooter incidents unfold support the importance of preparation by law enforcement officers and citizens alike.

The Solution

We presented in 2012 that the solution to this rising threat is “each other”. We stand by this today. Take care of one another.

Ultimately we are all responsible for our own safety, for our family, and for our community. You can be the fastest and most capable ‘first responder’ in your immediate vicinity. But to be uniform, safe and accurate, you need the right training.

Able Shepherd™ is the standard-setting, nationally-recognized progressive training program designed to teach situational leadership and protective tactics that can be applied to virtually any threatened environment.

It is time to get started.
